A while back I played Elite: Dangerous for a bit, and it was kind of fun, I forget why I quit but it might be because Elite is very much an unstructured activity and the controls are kind of meh by default.

As I got my Valve Index I was kind of struggling to find a game I wanted to play apart from the amazingly excellent Half-Life: Alyx. The lab (Valve), Aperture hand lab (Valve) and Beat Saber held my interest for a while, and Moss was pretty good but a bit of a let down in some parts of the execution (I found the fact that you actually control the mouse slightly creepy, not to mention the absolute cocktease of not ending the story!)

I thought House of the Dying Sun would be good but it just wouldn't tickle my fancy.

Then I tried Elite: Dangerous again and in VR, really caught me. The audio design is fantastic (but unrealistic) and being inside the ships is superb. It's not perfect; I would love to see actual orbital flight, a less arcady UI and more depth to the world (but the Odyssey expansion makes some promises there) and the ability to target things while still keeping my jump target, but somehow just being able to fly ships in space (in VR) is just the ticket.

Also the combat is shit, and high ranking players will kill you just for existing if you play open (especially for community events), but solo is fine by me... And I also joined the Mobius Group so fuck the PvP nutcases.

So see you in space, CMDRs.
